News from the Vines: Winter 2017

08 May 2017

With the last of the olives being harvested, Team VDC is looking forward to some R&R over the coming winter months. From my side, after Indaba (Stand ICCR08) and Interwine Gangzhou, China, it will also soon be time to head home for school holidays and, like most parents, I will be looking at places to go and what to do with the family. For friends in a similar position, Val du Charron has some great winter options!

Stay warm this winter

If a warm and comfy place is what you need to hibernate, our guesthouse has some super specials online. Both Piza e Vino and Local Grill are bringing out new seasonal menus - offering hearty meals to enjoy by the fireplaces along with a large glass of red wine, whilst the kids get creative with shake and bake at Piza e Vino. We even do kids parties, where the little ones get to make their own pizza.

The cellar is proud to bring you some new releases: Val du Charron Merlot - black cherry, cherry pip and raspberry dominate the nose, with hints of nutmeg and tobacco, evolving in the glass to nuances of chocolate and mocha; medium bodied and elegant with velvety tannins on the palate – and new vintages of Black Countess as well as Aphaea.

With the rain and snow, why not enjoy a sauna and an ultra-comfort massage at the spa? If the weather makes you think of Christmas, our early bird specials are now open for accommodation - and we've already taking bookings for our ever-popular Christmas Lunch at the Local Grill.

Interesting fact: There are 4500 olive trees on Val du Charron. 80% are Mission olives and 20% are Frantoio. They both start out green and turn black. We harvest mechanically and the oil goes into one of South Africa’s finest extra virgin olive oils.
